Most people thing that comics books should be what their name suggest, comical in some sense. That’s at least what a couple of people from my life seem to be thinking. In reality there are many different genres of comics that can be found out there. I’m personally a fan, or maybe I shouldn’t say fan, an appreciator of a good comic strip that features tragedy. Well today we’re going to be talking about one such comic, Candorville Tragedy Comic Strips.

Comic book authors that talk about tragedy – Candorville

Candorville is a comic book strip of artist Darrin Bell. It is a syndicated comic book strip that has been published for over 10 years now. Launch date was sometime in 2003 I think. We’ve been reading it here at Blank Label Comics for the past 5 years at least.

Comic books are offering tragic and unsatisfying twists at the end, which is why we love them. Candorville has the propensity to talk about political issues, which is why it got into trouble and was even denied publication in some right-leaning newspapers. Oh, that’s right, Candorville has been syndicated and featured in multiple newspapers for the better part of its existence. It all started in a student newspaper at UC Berkley. Here’s a link to the web archive of the Candorville Tragedy Comic Strip. Give it a whirl and let me know what you think.
